The Jefferson Garden
by: Miss Kris and Miss Marlene's Classes
Last spring we planted gourd seeds (little gourds and birdhouse gourds), little and big pumpkin seeds, white pumpkin seeds, watermelon seeds and herbs /wildflowers to attract butterflies. In past years we have had great success with our garden. We also talked about what items seeds/plants need to grow. Dirt, water and sun are the key factors.
However, we also decided that a bit of love would help our garden grown even better.
Several families helped us water our garden through the long, hot summer. Guess what????
When we returned in the fall we had some pumpkins, gourds and watermelons waiting for us!
We plan to harvest our garden as soon as everything is ready!

Pumpkin Song
Original Author Unknown
Sung to: Have you ever seen a lassie?
Have you ever seen a pumpkin,
a pumpkin, a pumpkin,
Have you ever seen a pumpkin,
that grows on a vine?
A round one, a tall one,
a bumpy one, a squashed one.
Have you ever seen a pumpkin,
that grows on a vine?
Watermelon

Sung to:
"Are You Sleeping"
Watermelon, watermelon,
On the vine, on the vine,
Green and ripe and juicy,
Green and ripe and juicy,
Please be mine,
Please be mine.

Watermelon, watermelon
Thump, thump, thump
Thump, thump, thump
I think you are ready,
I think you are ready,
Time to eat!
Juicy, sweet!
