Growing a Garden!
We planted our garden last spring.
Last spring the children planted
seeds in the soil . They planted
several kinds of pumpkins,
gourds and watermelon!
We learned about how buds form on the vine and grow into pumpkins or gourds.
It took a lot of sun, water and TLC for our garden to grow!
Will this flower be a pumpkin, a gourd or a watermelon?
The children learned buds grow
on the vine into the pumpkins, watermelons or gourds.
This watermelon looks almost ready to pick! We had many tiny pumpkins growing. This pumpkin looks bigger!
We looked at our garden several
times once we got back to school in
the fall, and finally some things
were ready to pick!
I think some things are finally ready to pick! This is a bird's nest gourd
This gourd looks ready to pick!
The brown gourd is a dried birdhouse gourd. The ones we picked are
not ready to be birdhouses yet.
The white gourd is a fresh one, the brown gourd is one that has dried.
The children learned about when things are ready to harvest (pick).
They must be the right color.
Don't leave them on the vine too long or they will get mushy and rotten!
I wonder how many pumpkins we will harvest? Once our gourds dry out, we can make our own birdhouses!
We enjoyed this shared activity with our friends!
We learned so much about how things grow.
We can't wait until we can pick our watermelons and our big pumpkins!
Look at the size of this melon!
We thought this day would never
come! We can finally pick our
pumpkins and watermelons!
This pumpkin looks ready!
But the best part was when we
got to eat the fruit that we grew!
I found a small pumpkin over here! Look at our harvest!
Sharing watermelon with friends is the best!
The watermelon was delicious!
Together time with Miss Marlene and Miss Kris was spent eating our watermelon.
Here, have a taste!
Look, the melon is pink inside!
Miss Stephanie enjoyed the watermelon too!
It looks so good I can't wait to taste it!
Sharing with Miss Stephanie.
