HONORING ALL WHO SERVE
Veteran's Day Jefferson Preschool 2008

The children at Jefferson Preschool have been busy learning about Veteran’s Day for the past several weeks.

A military trunk with clothing and genuine artifacts was circulated through all of the classes for children to explore. A soldier’s uniform was donated to use in our memorabilia trunk.

Students and staff collected
the top 10 needed items for
our brave men and women of the military. All contributions will be sent overseas with the help of Illinois Operation Support Our Troops.

On Friday, November 7 th , many family members who are veterans or who are currently serving in the military were honored during our
Veterans Day program.

The Color Guard Team from Marmion Military Academy, under the direction of Master Sargeant Leon Collins, joined us to present the flag for the morning ceremony.

The Color Guard from Wheaton College under the direction of Ryan Casey presented the flag in the afternoon.

We thank the Mayor of Wheaton, Michael Gresk, from the Western DuPage Exchange Club, and the Give the Kids a Flag Program for the donation of the flags provided to each child in attendance at Jefferson

Staff and students watched as the flag was presented, everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and the children gave thank you cards to the veterans in attendance and sang a special "thank you"
song to them.

A student representative from each class "mailed" a handmade card in a life size mailbox to troops overseas.  These cards, along with care packages created from Jefferson family contributions, will be sent to troops stationed overseas via Illinois Operation Support Our Troops.

The ceremony concluded with images of veterans and our brave men and women currently serving in our armed forces filling the screen and the entire audience joined in singing "The Star Spangled Banner".

On behalf of the Jefferson staff, we thank all of the courageous men and women who make incredible sacrifices for our freedom everyday. We Honor, Remember and Thank You!
