The Mystery of the Watermelon
that was not a Watermelon!

by: Miss Kris and Miss Marlene's Friends
Our afternoon class picked a
nice watermelon out of the
Jefferson garden.
We estimated how much it weighed.
Student estimations were:
95 lbs. 63 lbs. 3 lbs. 60 lbs.
14 lbs.   2  lbs. and 1 lb
The actual weight was 4 lbs.  Then we decided to cut open the watermelon and enjoy a nice red, juicy piece!
But when we cut it open we
found that it was WHITE
and not red and juicy!
After some research, a look at
our crop map and a closer
look at the leaves.
We learned that it was in
fact an APPLE GOURD!
Then we predicted who weighed more,
a friend or the apple gourd.
Three friends guessed that the gourd weighed more and
9 friends guessed that a friend
would weigh more.

We weighed 4 friends.
Their weights were:
36 lbs. 42  lbs.  28 lbs. and 37  lbs.

The friends weighed more
then the apple gourd!

PS: We did taste the apple gourd
and decided it tasted
like a cucumber!
