Our Leaf Experiment

by: Miss Marlene's Classes

Miss Stephanie was our special
"lab assistant". We showed her the
leaves that we had collected and explained what our experiment
was about. We wanted to keep our
leaves soft and pliable.
Pliable means to
bend without breaking.

Here are some theories the class came
up with, of ways to keep our
leaves soft and pliable.

1. Put some spray on our leaves
to keep the bugs off.
2. Put water on them and leave
them under the shade.
3. Put them in water.
Miss Marlene heard that if we put the
leaves in a mixture of glycerin and water
that they would stay soft and pliable!

The children came up with theories about what would happen if we put
the leaves in glycerin and water.
This is what they said.

1. They will change.
2. They will go from blue to green (only we never had any blue leaves!!)
3. They will change from
purple to yellow.
4. They'll change colors.
5. They will be crunchy.

6. They will stay pliable.

In the Am class 8 friends think the
glycerin will work and the leaves will be pliable and 2 said they would not.

In the Pm class 9 think the leaves will be pliable and 1 said they would not.

We put the leaves in glycerin and water and left them over the weekend.
We left some other leaves on a plate.
.
Our Conclusion
After we left our leaves over the
weekend and came back on Tuesday, we found that the leaves in the glycerin and water were soft and pliable!
The leaves left on the plate in the air were crunchy and would break!
