Nurse's Corner
Jefferson Preschool has three nurses
Terri Donahue RN, MSN- Il Certified School Nurse,
Michelle Weber, RN and Janet Fox, RN .
Our nurses provide full-time coverage in the event
that your child feels ill or has an emergency at school. If you have any questions regarding physical/ immunization requirements,or would like to share medical concerns that you have for your child,

Quick Facts That May Be Helpful to Know :


*Physicals are required for all students entering preschool for the first time and must be completed no earlier than 1 year prior to the student’s first day of school.  Students transferring from another preschool program may submit the physical required for the previous preschool.

*Immunizations
required for preschool attendance are: complete series of DTP/DTaP, IPV, Hepatitis B, and Hib immunizations.  Also required are a single Varicella (chicken pox) and MMR immunization.  Medical and Religious objections to any immunizations must be submitted in writing. http://www.idph.state.il.us/about/shots.htm

* Medication:   In order for your child to receive any medication at school, you and your child’s doctor must complete the district’s medication order form.  Please call the nurse’s office if you need a copy of the form.

*Food Allergies:  We have an increasing number of students with food and peanut allergies. To help keep our school safe for all of our young students, we try to keep Jefferson Preschool a peanut-free space.  Please do not send snacks containing peanuts or obvious peanut products. http://www.foodallergy.org/

*Please call the school or nurse’s office if your child has or is being treated for a childhood or communicable disease such as:  strep throat; chicken pox; rotavirus; hand, foot and mouth disease; fifth’s disease. Contact the nurse for other issues, special considerations or if your child has an asthma action plan.

*Vision & Hearing Screenings are conducted by the DuPage County Health Department after the first of the year.  If you have any concerns regarding your child’s vision or hearing, please contact the nurse at any time. 

Guidelines to consider when sending your child to school : * Students should be free of fever (without use of medication), diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school. A temperature of 100°F by mouth or 99°F under the arm is considered a fever. * A doctor’s note clearing return to school is required for students with unexplained rashes.*Please keep your child home if cold symptoms or low energy level will interfere with your child’s ability to keep up with the school day activities.
