Dine Out Events

First Dine Out Event ....................... September 1

Held monthly during the school year typically on the first Wednesday of the month, Dine-Out Events build community spirit at Jefferson and generate PTA funding. Partner restaurants and entertainment venues (such as Monkey Joe’s) provide settings where families and Jefferson staff members can gather for enjoyable outings. As a fundraising component, the businesses donate to the PTA a percentage of their sales to Jefferson-affiliated patrons.

Additional Dine Out Event Dates: October 6, December 1, February 2, March 2, April 6 and May 4. November and January Dine Out dates are to be determined at this time.

Held monthly on the second Thursday, PTA meetings are open to all parents, guardians and school staff members. Meetings include updates on plans underway, discussions of future activities, management of the PTA’s $25,000 annual budget and school news from our principal. Decisions are made by a majority vote of the PTA’s current members in attendance.

N.E.W. 200 Fun Run .......... Saturday, September 18

This event is a 5K and 1 mile run/walk benefitting the N.E.W. 200. Its mission is to “lift our schools to N.E.W. heights by supporting District 200 schools with teacher and student program funding. The fun run also features
a variety of activities and participatory attractions for all ages. As an added benefit, grants are given to the schools with the highest number of participants and students receive special Kids' Completion Medals.

Hayride ......... Friday, September 24

A family friendly activity in a fun location, the annual hayride provides an opportunity to meet other Jefferson families from your child’s class and from the school as a whole. A tradition at Jefferson for many years, the hayride is always a favorite and is free for all Jefferson families. It provides the perfect kick-off to autumn. Held at Wheaton’s Danada Equestrian Center from 5:30-7:30pm, the program features crafts, games, snacks, campfire fun, and class hayrides.

Spirit Days, Spirit Wear and Spirit Share

First Spirit Day ........... October 1

Spirit Days invite students and staff to show school pride by wearing red, white and blue or Jefferson Spirit Wear. Sold by the PTA, Spirit Wear celebrates Jefferson through clothing and other items emblazoned with “Jefferson” and its logo. In the spirit of being “green”, Spirit Share recycles outgrown clothing and allows many more students to enjoy wearing Jefferson attire.

Additional Spirit Days: November 5, December 3, January 7, February 11, March 4, April 8 and May 6.

Make a Difference Day Activities.......... October 19-23

Make a Difference Day affords students the opportunity to participate in a nationwide service project that offers a hands-on example of the importance of volunteering. This year Make a Difference Day at Jefferson will benefit animal welfare. Children will learn how they themselves can help animals and make a difference. Donations will be collected at school and then presented to the DuPage Animal Care and Control on Saturday, October 23, National Make a Difference Day.

America Education Week .............. November 14-20

Held annually since 1921, American Education Week spotlights the importance of providing every child in America with a quality education from kindergarten through college, and the need for everyone to take part in making public schools great. Jefferson participates by creating an artwork display at AlphaGraphics (128 Front Street, Wheaton) to increase awareness of Wheaton’s youngest students.

Educator Appreciation Breakfast ........... November 19

Just before Thanksgiving break, the PTA acknowledges the dedicated group for whom we are all thankful – the administrators, teachers, therapists, psychologists, nurses, social workers and staff at Jefferson. A tradition cherished for its sincerity, the event presents a buffet to enjoy prior to the start of school. Contributed by families, the breakfast selections -- some home-made and others thoughtfully selected – are all a tangible and much appreciated symbol of our gratitude.

Grandparents’ Day ........ February 18

Annually at Jefferson, Grandparents’ Day offers these special loved ones the chance to experience preschool with their grandchildren. Created as an experience exclusively for students and their grandparents (or other significant adults in children’s lives), the event consists of a visit to their grandchild’s classroom, a craft project completed together and snack time. In addition, Grandparents’ Day features keepsake photos of each child and grandparent to commemorate the occasion.

Book Fair and Pajama Party .......... March 1 - 2

An event that encourages children’s love of reading, the book fair offers the opportunity to purchase high-quality, fun and educational books where a portion of the proceeds are returned to the school. These proceeds are then used to expand library collections and/or procure additional classroom materials. Special events include Muffins with Mom, Doughnuts with Dad and an all-school party where students in the comfort of their favorite pajamas enjoy stories read aloud.

Jet Fest Family Fun Fair .... April 2011 (TBD)

Organized to celebrate and enjoy our families, to build community and to raise money for PTA activities, the Jet Fest Family Fun Fair is certain to create cherished memories for both children and parents. An afternoon of laughing, jumping and gaming in a carnival-like atmosphere, Jet Fest activities are tailored to enchant and engage preschoolers. Event highlights include a petting zoo, costumed character visits, bounce houses, games, prizes, kids’ crafts, music, food and more.

School Supply Kits ........ Spring 2010

Assisting with back-to-school shopping, the School Supply Kit Program conveniently provides school supplies to Jefferson families. Through this initiative parents purchase kits and the specific supplies requested by teachers are delivered to individual students’ classrooms prior to the start of school. School Supply Kit order forms will be provided in returning student registration materials.

National Educator Appreciation Week ........ May 2-6

Annually in early May, the PTA participates in National Educator Appreciation Week. Although aspects vary from year to year, elements have included booklets for teachers with children’s thank you cards, poems for the staff celebrating their efforts and more. Traditionally, the week culminates in a buffet luncheon created from families’ home-made and thoughtfully selected contributions that sincerely communicate heartfelt appreciation.

Board of Education Meeting at Jefferson........... May 11

A tradition in District 200, Board of Education Meetings are held each of the district’s 20 schools on a rotating basis. Board meetings give each school an opportunity to showcase its students, its staff and their accomplishments. They also provide a venue for the families to meet board members at their home school. The PTA provides refreshments and a warm welcome to all in attendance.
