Jefferson Preschool - Creating Brighter Tomorrows

Jefferson Preschool

We Honor, Remember, and Thank You!
Thank you Veterans Happy Veteran's Day!

The children and the entire school participated in various activities during the days that led up to Veteran’s Day.
The first week, November 1 – 4, the children were introduced to clothing, rank badges, pins, awards and equipment used by those in the military.  A memorabilia trunk was shown to the children. The trunk was explored as a teacher directed activity. The children had the opportunity to manipulate, touch, and wear the items. In the hallways, photos were hung from star garland attached to stars exhibiting this year’s district theme:
We Honor, Remember, and Thank You!
Pictures of family members who have or are presently serving in the military were displayed . The children decorated cards that will be included in care packages sent to soldiers in
Iraq and Afghanistan.

My Grandpa and Me Wheaton College Color Guard
On Friday, November 11th, there was a Veteran’s Day Ceremony. The children and staff wore red, white and blue clothing. The boys and girls paraded outside waving flags provided by Mike Gresk of the Exchange Club of West DuPage.  A Color Guard Team from the ROTC program at Wheaton College was there to present the flag.  Our principal, Stephanie Farrelly, lead the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a brief Veteran’s Day statement.  After Stephanie introduced our Veteran guests, the students presented them with a thank you card.  The children sang their Veteran’s Day song, after which they returned to their classroom with our special guests to enjoy juice and a patriotic themed snack. It was a very special day. Shortly after this day, a member of the American Legion called our school and awarded Jefferson Preschool a special certificate of Appreciation!
